Frequently Asked Questions

You can find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions here, but if you'd like to know more we're always available to chat!

Q

What can Behaviour Support help with?

Working with us to access Behaviour Support can help with developing functional communication skills, daily living skills, job readiness skills, school readiness skills, social skills, emotional self-regulation skills, self-care skills, play skills, imitating skills etc.

Q

Are you a registered NDIS provider?

We certainly are! Providing you have the right funding support in your NDIS plan, you can use this to gain access to our services.

Q

Which funding lines do I need in my NDIS plan for Behaviour Support?

In order to access Behaviour Support through Unicorn Behaviour, you'll need to have funding hours allocated under “Capacity Building Supports - Improved Relationships.”

Q

What age groups do Unicorns work with?

We currently work with people ranging in age from 7 through to 64.

We do consider all referrals individually and regardless of age, however, and accept or decline referrals based on whether our specific skillsets match the needs of each participant.

Q

Do you work directly with participants?

We sure do! We spend as much time as possible building a direct relationship to better understand how best to support people - everyone's different!

Q

What's a 'Behaviour Support Plan' and do you write them individually?

Great questions! Basically a behaviour support plan outlines the supports and strategies to be implemented to teach new skills to a person and reduce any underlying behaviours of concern.

It's a comprehensive document that aims to provide a step by step guide for ensuring a person has improved quality of life through the use of Positive Behaviour Support.

All of our Behaviour Support Plans are developed based on the information gathered through a functional behaviour assessment, tailored to the individual participant, and built in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.

Q

Do you provide training support?

Absolutely. We work alongside all stakeholders and provide training for relevant individuals or organisations who may need it. This includes parents and family members, support workers, and school staff or employers involved in work placement etc.

Q

What is 'ABA'?

ABA stands for Applied Behaviour Analysis, a “scientific approach for discovering environmental variables that reliably influence socially significant behaviour and for developing a technology of behaviour change.” (Cooper, Heron, & Heward, 2007, p. 3).

It uses strategies to increase the occurrence of socially significant behaviours, increase independence, increase the levels of choice and control people are able to exert in their lives and as a result, naturally reduce any behaviours that are impeding daily functioning/learning.
